G’s Birthday Cake and Other Pics From Home

I arrived back in Vancouver for my summer vacation on Sunday and have really enjoyed reconnecting with my city through long loping runs, patio dinners, and sunny summer walks. The weather has been fantastic and the city has been welcoming. I have also spent quality time with Moe, my  19 year old but still adorable cat (photos to follow). My good friend A flies in from New Haven tonight (arriving at 1am … gulp!) and I am really looking forward to showing her around for 10 days.

Today I spent a good chunk of the afternoon making and decorating a Dragon cake for my friend G’s birthday. I am pretty proud of how it turned out (photos to follow). If you would like to make this cake, check out the pattern here: http://spoonful.com/recipes/fire-breathing-cake with additional instructions here: http://www.instructables.com/id/Fire-Breathing-Dragon-Cake!!/. This thing is surprisingly easy to put together (eat your hear out, Ace of Cakes!) and would be a big hit at any child’s (or youthful adult’s) party.
